Geothermal Heating and Cooling Systems

Green Mountain Well Co, Inc. in Putney, Vermont, is truly green thanks to our environmentally safe geothermal heating and cooling systems. Not only are these units energy efficient, but they save you money on your operating costs. Geothermal heating and cooling units are also known as ground source heat pumps. The system’s concept takes advantage of the earth’s constant temperature to heat and cool your home or commercial building. Styles of Geothermal Units

Closed Loop

In a closed loop system, ground source heat pumps work by circulating water or antifreeze solution through a closed loop of polyethylene pipe that is buried in the ground.

Open Loop

An open loop system involves taking water from the ground, using it as a heat source, and disposing of it on the earth’s surface. We are not proponents of this method, even though a number of people use it.

Standing Column

The standing column system is a great way to heat your home and conserve energy. Using a standard water well as a heat source, the geothermal unit extracts the heat from the water, which is recycled back to the well.
